iPad 3: to buy or not to buy?

The iPad 3 release date is rumored to be right around the corner. Some of you may be searching for rumors and the most recent news on the iPad 3 to decide if price is right. Although the price of the iPad 3 has yet to be released it is very likely that it will follow the same structure as the current iPad 2. With that in mind you must determine if you will be one of the many waiting in line to get your hands on Apple’s biggest new release.

Reasons to avoid the iPad 3 at launch

Let’s be honest, if you’re someone that has bought every new Apple product the past five years this article isn’t for you. There is absolutely nothing wrong buying the newest and greatest thing to be released from Apple. However there are a large majority of folks who have different priorities or simply don’t have the funds for big ticket items.
If you fall into the later group who try to stay budget conscious then you may want to consider waiting for the iPad 2 price to drop. With the release of the iPad 3 the iPad 2 will of course become discounted. Although not a huge savings, it should be at least a hundred dollar difference in price. If the most recent rumors of the iPad 3 are correct the upgrade may not even be that noticeable. If that is the case then waiting for a discounted iPad 2 almost seems like a no brainier economically speaking.
Another reason to not purchase the iPad 3 is that there are some very competitive Android tablets about to hit the market. Now if you’re already invested in iOS then these really shouldn’t be an option. However for those who just are looking for a nice tablet you may find a better deal with something like the Amazon Kindle Fire. The Windows 8 tablets are also set to come out later this year. For those who currently run Windows machines the Windows tablet may make more sense. All rumors of the Windows 8 machines are looking good and could easily become serious competition for the Apple iPad 3.
There is also the rumor that the iPad 3 may just be a small upgrade similar to the iPhone 4S compared to the iPhone 4. With that in mind there are rumors of an iPad 4 coming later this year to compete with the Windows 8 releases. If this is the case then putting down $500+ for the iPad 3 simply doesn’t make sense for anyone on a tight budget. With any technology you are obviously going to be outdated quickly, but if the iPad 3 doesn’t offer revolutionary changes we would suggest holding off on the purchase. The iPad 3 and iPad 4 coming in 2012 seems like a bit of a stretch, but it defiantly could happen if they fear Windows 8 enough.
